MACD Lab: the Full-History Trend Reader

The classic Moving Average Convergence Divergence, computed on every day of history for any ticker — back to 1993 for SPY. Watch the MACD line cross its signal, the histogram flip green to red, and every bullish and bearish cross the indicator has ever printed. Change the periods and the whole record recomputes.

How to read it. MACD subtracts a slow moving average (26 days) from a fast one (12) to measure momentum. The signal line is a 9-day average of that. When the MACD line crosses above the signal, the histogram turns green — a bullish cross; crossing below turns it red. Crossings above and below the zero line mark shifts between longer-term up- and down-trends. EMAs are seeded with a simple average of their first window, the textbook convention, and computed on split/dividend-adjusted closes for continuity across decades.

This is an indicator, not a signal service. MACD is a lagging, trend-following tool that whipsaws in choppy markets — the hundreds of crossings on record include many false ones. It describes what price has done, not what it will do. Shown for education, not investment advice.
